Hey there,
I surely can’t wait any longer, We at Tequila Bubbles have been excited about this particular blog post for a long time now.
So let’s deep dive into the know-how about a beverage that is considered as a lifeline worldwide – COFFEE!!!!
A SELF-CONFESSED COFFEE ADDICT
I am almost certain this is my all-time favorite article, as I am a self-confessed Coffee Addict. Just like Sheldon in the Big Bang Theory had his ‘spot,’ I have a coffee ‘spot’ that starts throbbing for lack of the aromatic caffeine-laden beverage. My affinity for this enjoyable drink goes back to my teenage days. Those days, I would have milk with my then favorite chocolate powder. During summers, once a week, my mother would treat me to a fancy glass-filled Cold Coffee. I still remember the coffee powder would be enough to transform the milk from white to light brown. The mixture was sugary, but as a teenager, that too felt divine. The aroma itself was enough to keep me charged up for the week.
Gradually as I grew up, the once-a-week scene got upgraded to having Coffee on Saturdays and Sundays. The milk, sugar, and instant powder proportions were also modified. For me, a perfect concoction means- less sugar, more Coffee powder, and milk. But, of course, my taste buds enjoy the South Indian filter coffee or any other brew as well.
My love for java increased with passing time. As you can see or (read in this case), I could go on and on.
But this article focuses on the History, Coffe Houses, and the incredible benefits of this wonder drink.
THE BAFFLING DISCOVERY OF COFFEE-
So, where should we begin? It is common knowledge that Coffee is found in abundance in Brazil, South America. It constitutes a sizeable proportion of the product globally and is one of the most sought-after commodities. But did you know- the origin of coffee beans and trees can be traced to Ethiopian Plateau? According to legend, this is where it all began.
Many fascinating stories are associated with the Coffee Cherry plant. But the one that caught my attention is as follows:
KALDI & HIS GOATS
Ages ago, a man called Kaldi was taking his goats from one place to another. On the way, he stopped and let his goats graze around. Soon he observed that after eating a red-colored bean, his herd was acting abnormally. They were extra energetic and alert. Kaldi was amazed. He presented a handful of beans to a monk. The latter too was overtaken by the power of these mystery beans- as he could stay awake all night for his prayers. And the monk passed them on to other hermits.
Cafe Mocha & Yemen
Thus, began the journey of the coffee bean with its next stop being Yemen. An interesting fact came to the shore during my research. When we go to a coffee joint and order for a Café Mocha-just another way of saying Coffee with chocolate! In reality, much to your amazement, Mocha is a port in Yemen where the ship carrying the coffee beans had anchored for the first time. And hence the name.
Gradually the production spread across present-day Indonesia, Java, and Sumatra and finally found an irreplaceable position in America.
The southern part of the Indian subcontinent has likewise been involved with Coffee Plantations- which spread across hundreds of hectares. In actuality, the coffee plant and seeds were smuggled by a Sufi saint. He then commenced his journey to start the cultivation of Coffee.
The journey from the tree to the cup is rather long and tedious. A well-kept tree serves for close to a hundred years. Good Lord!!! One of the many wonders of this Planet!!
So much for the origin, but wait up,
Do you know about Coffee Houses?????
During my research days, I would often begin to imagine the fervor surrounding these places. Be it the soft-spoken groups to the ones having heated arguments and debates over a government policy or the economic situation of the country. We can only imagine the flow of energy in Coffee Houses.
Earlier on, somewhere around the 1500s, outlets were known as ‘Coffee House’ came into existence in the Middle East. Gradually this concept grew all over Europe-especially in the U.K., France, and Germany.
Later on, Coffee Houses found their way in the Indian Sub-Continent, especially during British rule in India. The focal point is that these places were not like the regular Café’s that we are accustomed to. Apart from the brew that was served, it was the epicenter where individuals would meet. The conversation would revolve around various subjects and progressive ideas. Numerous revolutionary ideas sprung from such meetings. A common topic of discussion revolving around politics, education, freedom was quite a scene.
The morning recharging beverage
In the 20th and 21st centuries, the beverage attained a cult status. In America, it became a regular person’s daily drink. Even the American Film Industry propagated freshly-brewed beans-with or without milk as a must-have. Clippings showing Morning Coffee as a mandatory beverage to kickstart the day caught the fancy of millions the world over. Often Movie clippings would feature an important executive rushing for a deal cracking meeting. But having enough time to ‘grab’ a coffee on the way…I’m sure you will agree with me.
Since the 2000s, the decoction has undergone various transformations and modifications.
Another exciting aspect is the numerous names that were given to the drink. The most famous one being, of course, CAPPUCCINO. Remember, Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan starrer”You’ve Got Mail’? And the innumerable Cappuccino cups??
A steaming hot cup with some cream has been viewed as a stress reliever and a mood changer. A Café Latte is for those who preferred their java somewhat light. The concoctions have increased, many folds during recent years- like Coffee with hazelnut, Choco chips and chocolate syrup, dollops of ice cream, and many more.
Benefits
Over some time, the utility power of the Instant Robusta also underwent a sea of change. Patisseries use it as an ingredient in baking sweet delights. The mix of coffee powder, sugar, and cream is simply marvelous. A dash of almonds makes these preparations irresistible. Be it cakes, pastries, or mousse, Coffee imparts a distinct flavor that is extremely enjoyable.
Of late, cosmetic companies are also introducing various beauty products, like body scrubs, face masks, and facewashes, using Coffee as an ingredient. In addition, Coffee is an excellent exfoliator. And also a good product for treating damaged hair. Right from startups to world-renowned companies, the benefits of this wonder ingredient are phenomenal.
